History
First United Methodist Church of Tacoma Is the Soil…
Common Good Tacoma began as a project, only possible because of a grant from The Pacific Northwest Conference of The United Methodist Church. John Wesley, one of the Methodist movement's founders, had a commitment to embodied, practical faith that measured the well-being of the individual in tension with the well-being of their society. First UMC of Tacoma has existed for over 100 years in the city and moved into our current building in 2008 after its historic building was sold to the TG for its expansion.

Common Good Tacoma is planted
Coming out of lockdown, we gathered community partners who represented areas of our common life that felt important to hear from in building anything new.
Public schools, youth, immigration, impacts on unhoused people, incarceration, the church — 17 of us engaged in a process of community conversation and visioning for what container would be possible. Common Good Tacoma was formed in March 2023 and incorporated as a 501 C(3) in September of 2023.
